Gutsy and sultry, Sila Jane combines a rootsy, jazzy, groove based folk with a passion for justice and the environment. Her music has been described as emotive, inspiring, powerful and soulful. Sila Jane fuses infectious grooves with sweet, sensual melodies.
Formerly singer, songwriter of Azure, Sila Jane is a passionate performer, with a raw, beautiful vocal sound and has performed regularly in Melbourne cafes, pubs and at a variety of festivals throughout Victoria for over six years. Sila Jane performs as a duo, trio or four piece, with Stewart Lecorn on bass, David Shirley on drums and Michael Herbert on keyboard and flute. With Sila Janes’ dynamic guitar work, the bands’ funky grooves, vocal harmonies and sounds of flute, keyboard, or trumpet, Sila Jane creates an energetic and engaging performance
Sila Jane’s song writing is honest and intimate. Her songs of justice, spirituality and relationships have a passion and integrity that is reflected in her campaigning work over recent years in asylum seekers issues, the environment and global poverty.
Brief History:
2007 With some great new songs, Sila Jane is now back gigging regularly and preparing for an exciting new CD release planned for late 2007. Sila Jane plans to promote the CD through live gigs, festival performances, radio airplay and interstate touring.
2004 and 2005 Jane focuses on her campaigning work and song writing.
2003 Awarded funding from the Victoria Arts Council for a five track CD EP, It's You, completed late in 2003. The Azure EP and It's You EP receives excellent reviews, establishing Azure & Jane on the independent Australian music scene.
2000 & 2001 Diploma of Music Performance. Performing regular gigs, Sila Jane writes a range of new material and adds a new dimension to her vocal skills and style.
1999 Under Azure, Jane records and independently releases Azure's EP launching the CD with sell out shows at The Continental and the Evelyn Hotel. Following the release the band tours around Victoria and gains media exposure with airplay, interviews and live performances on radio stations such as Triple R and PBS.
